Penny Smith Wins Gold

21-year-old Penny Smith has won Gold in the Women’s Trap competition at the 2017 ISSF World Cup New Delhi, India.

Currently ranked 51 in the world, Penny never looked fazed in the finals match at the first ISSF event of 2017. Penny defeated Jessica Rossi of Italy, currently ranked 9th in the world, to win the first World Cup medal of her career.

When questioned after her win an excited Penny said ”It felt amazing when I shot the last target and all I could I think about was I did it for Gran. It's the happiest moment of my sporting career and my greatest achievement to date. Thanks to my personal coach Greg Chan and new Australian team coach Adam Vella".

Congratulations Penny!

Gippsland Sports Academy Junior Development

An article, written by the Gippsland Sports Academy, outlining the commencement of a shooting section at the Academy for junior shooters is available for review on "Junior News".

We now have 4 Academies supporting our young shooters and they are:

  1. Bendigo Bank Academy of Sport (the first to commence a few years ago and is very successful), in Bendigo
  2. South West Academy of Sport (commenced last year), in Warrnambool;
  3. Sunraysia Academy of Sport (commenced this year), in Mildura; and
  4. Gippsland Sport Academy (commenced this year), in Newborough near Moe.

Our juniors have been doing well at the Nationals and at their club competitions and there are a lot of potential high performance members coming from these academies.

VCTA Policies

VCTA policies are to be added progressively to the Governance page commencing with the "Member Protection Policy". This policy is a PDF file which can be viewed via a link on the "Governance" page.

Members Please Note

Secure your Firearms!

When at a range, firearms not being used MUST be locked in your vehicle.

Police have been checking vehicles at clubs to see that shooters are not leaving guns in unlocked cars.

Random checks will continue to occur more frequently at Gun Clubs, so please be sure to lock your guns away when not in use, and store ammunition correctly.

Police will confiscate firearms that are not secured properly and there is a risk of losing your license as well as being charged.

Is your firearms licence about to expire?

Please check the expiry date as, ultimately, you are responsible for renewing your licence.  Sometimes notices for renewal are not sent. It is recommended that you renew a month before the expiry date so as to avoid going through the mundane tests etc.

If you have overlooked the expiry date you will receive a letter from the Licensing Services Division advising that you will have to dispose of your firearms.
